OREGON CITY – Student journalists at Clackamas Community College recently won 17 awards in the 2017 Oregon Collegiate Newspaper Contest.
Among the awards was a first-place prize for sports writing for a story about Clackamas instructors working with the Portland Winterhawks hockey team.
The Print’s student journalists won first-place awards in the two-year school category for its website, feature story, news story, sports photo, special section and editorial.
The awards were presented by the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association at the annual Collegiate Day held April 28 at Linn-Benton Community College in Albany.
"Our staff works really hard," Victoria Tinker, a student and co-editor in chief at The Clackamas Print, said. "Our staff is one big, happy family, so even though all the awards are rewarded to specific members of the staff, we all share the love."
The Print won second-place awards in writing, design, graphic, feature photo and series. Third-place awards were earned in writing, news story, section, cartooning and photography.
Dozens of students from Oregon colleges and universities traveled to Albany on April 28 to take part in journalism workshops and the annual awards presentation.
