    The Theatre Arts Department faculty members are all working professionals in their field, with many years of professional theatre experience. Our theatre faculty knows how to take you to the next level, whatever your starting point may be.

  • James Eikrem  - Theatre Instructor and Artistic Director
     

     James (Jim) Eikrem was born in Oregon City. He graduated from Rex Putnam High School where he was honored with the Dr. Rex Putnam Award as outstanding student in his class. Jim completed his undergraduate work at Portland State University earning Bachelor degrees in Theatre Arts as well as English. He then attended the Graduate Acting Program at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts where he received his Master of Fine Arts. Recently, he completed certification as an associate teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework®. He and his wife, Betsy Richard, have two fine sons, Jack and Sten.

    Upon returning to Portland after working as an actor in New York, regional theatre, and Japan, Jim acted and directed plays at Portland area theatres including Artists Repertory Theatre, Lakewood Theatre, Portland Center Stage, Portland Repertory Theatre, and Sylvia’s Class Act. He also taught and directed for Portland Actors Conservatory, Portland Community College, and Portland State University as well as numerous youth programs including, CityArts, MetroArts Kid’s Camp, and Oregon Children’s Theatre.

    For the last ten years Jim has been an Assistant Professor at Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Besides teaching Acting, Movement, Directing, and Voice and Diction classes, he also appeared in numerous productions, directed and created performances for CMU’s University Theatre as well as The Riecker Literary Series, and directed “Singin’ in the Rain” and “Peter Pan” for the Midland Center for the Arts in Midland, Michigan. He wrote, produced and directed “Lines of Reasoning”, a sexual harassment awareness video, which is marketed to colleges and universities nationwide.

    Jim is delighted to be back, again, in Oregon and tremendously excited to take on the role of Theatre Instructor and Artistic Director here at CCC.

    Chris Whitten  - Resident Designer / Technical Director for CCC and CRT
     Chris Whitten, technical director and resident designer for the Clackamas Community College Theatre Department since 1995. Chris designs sets and lighting for the three annual productions and teaches the technical theatre classes and stand-up comedy class. Over the last 20 years Chris has designed lights and sets for over 325 shows as well as worked for many professional companies in Portland. He has also worked extensively with area high schools including La Salle, Beaverton, Rex Putnam, Wilsonville, Sunset, Aloha and Lake Grove.
    Alva  Bradford  - Costumer for CCC and CRT
     Alva Bradford has costumed shows for CCC since 1992. She has been costuming for Portland area theatre and dance companies for over 30 years. Ms. Bradford creates masks, puppets and sculptures. She has had one-woman shows of her paper and materials and sculptures and is artistic director for Mr. B's Puppet Theatre, a family puppet theatre featuring her three-foot string marionettes. She has also created slide-projection backdrops for many stages in Portland.
