Apply to be this year’s student speaker at commencement
Are you ready to inspire your fellow graduates, the Class of 2026? Do you have a story that embodies the spirit of Clackamas Community College's core values – Learning, Equity, Student Success, Community, and Belonging? If so, we invite you to take the stage and become the next Student Commencement Speaker!
Eligibility:- Good academic standing.
- Must be a graduate from summer 2025, fall 2025, winter 2026, or an applicant for spring 2026 or summer 2026.
- Spring/summer 2026 graduates must have applications filed as of May 8.
- Earning a certificate, associate degree, GED or Adult High School Diploma in the graduating class.
- Committed to attending the Commencement Ceremony on Friday, June 12.
- 5-7-minute original speech delivered orally: Captivate an audience of more than 2,000 graduates, family members and friends from diverse backgrounds.
- Embrace the Clackamas Community College spirit: Weave our core values – Learning, Equity, Student Success, Community and Belonging – into your message.
- Craft a compelling story: Share a unique experience from your journey at Clackamas Community College, highlighting themes such as volunteering, balancing work and studies, community involvement, overcoming challenges, embracing risks, transformative learning experiences, or any other personal story that resonates with your peers.
- Substantive, meaningful and engaging: Strike a balance between substance, meaning and entertainment, ensuring your speech is appropriate for the occasion.
- Clear organization: Structure your ideas and messages logically and cohesively.
- Student submissions are due by midnight, Sunday, April 26.
- Verification from Graduation Services confirming completion of all degree and certificate requirements.
- A graduation committee will review all submissions and recommendations.
- Selected candidates will be invited for a brief Zoom interview to discuss their proposed speeches and qualifications as a speaker.
- If needed, the selected speaker will receive support from our staff in finalizing and rehearsing their speech, guaranteeing their confidence and preparedness for the big day.
