July 17 | Five Insects and their Impacts on Human History
History has been influenced many times and in many ways by insects. It's about history — the history you never learned in school.

Learn how you can support this critical conservation mission and help make a lasting impact on Oregon’s marine environment.
July 31 | New Carissa Oil Spill Response and Natural Resource Protection and Restoration
Join Preston Sleeger, retired Regional Environmental Officer for the U.S. Dept. of the Interior (Pacific NW Region), to learn about the response to the grounding of the New Carissa and subsequent oil spill on the coast near Coos Bay, Oregon in February, 1999. This winter, the Environmental Learning Center presented a FREE online workshop series for anyone interested in home gardening for wildlife and water quality. Attendees learned how to garden with less water, manage too much stormwater, and generally provide a healthier habitat for birds, pollinating insects and more.
2025 workshops:
- Trees for Climate Resilience and Watershed Health
- Impacts of Land Use Changes & Climate on Birds
- Habitat Gardening for Pollinators in a Changing World
- Soil: The Magic Ingredient
- Plant Tolerances to Weather Extremes
- Balancing Fire Resistance, Wildlife Habitat, and Water Conservation Goals
- Gardening for Amphibians
This year we chose the overarching theme of climate resilience with presentations on the observed impacts of climate change on wildlife, and focused on actionable steps that we, as homeowners, can take to mitigate these effects while protecting watershed health. These presentations are now available to view online at the link below!
