CCC’s English degree offers student-focused classes, where you’ll gain skills for trades like publishing, marketing, advertising, writing, communications and even comics.
Clackamas Community College offers English courses that focus on four areas of interest including literature, creative writing, comics and publishing. Earning your two-year degree at CCC is an affordable way to begin your bachelor's degree in English with many transfer options to four-year universities.
The English program gives students many opportunities for real-world experience. Not only can they work as peer mentors in the Writing Center, but they have the chance to promote the program, edit and produce The Clackamas Literary Review and help plan CCC's annual creative writing conference, Compose.

You will develop some exciting new skills in this program. Among these new skills, you should be able to:
- Think analytically and creatively, research effectively and produce written content for a variety of outlets
- Navigate the world of text and images to develop content
- Write technically and at the university level, perform revisions, research, critique and argumentation
Careers
The employment opportunities that accompany an English major are myriad. One obvious example is the field of publishing. But English majors rarely stop at the obvious. Their skills apply equally well to the fields of public relations, marketing, advertising, and copywriting. In a business setting, English majors often fund success as communications managers, web developers, researchers, project leaders, or administrators.
If you want your words to reach the lives of others, English might guide you to the areas of law, government, and public policy. For those who truly love filling a blank page, English can lead into creative writing, speech writing, professional blogging, or technical writing. The careers of professional writer, librarian, and teacher are ideal if you find that your love of English is uncontainable and must be shared.
